From our May 2021 workshop, it’s the final session of Act 4, Scene 4, from Shakespeare’s Richard III.

OK, there is a lot going on with this scene, so let’s attempt to summarize! Queen Elizabeth and the Duchess of York (Richard’s mother) are grieving over their children and grandchildren. Former Queen Margaret secretly watches, and then comes forward to share they are not the only ones who’ve suffered. King Richard is passing by with his army, and the Duchess gives him a piece of her mind. Finally Richard is alone with Elizabeth and begins to talk with her about her daughter—also named Elizabeth—and the plans Richard has for her. So buckle in!

We continue rolling out these episodes from the past 12+ months of workshops we’ve been doing, including Hamlet, King Lear, Troilus and Cressida, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Julius Caesar, As You Like It, and King John and more. You get some of the popular plays and the lesser-known ones too. If you’ve missed any presentations thus far, click here to find them all.

Our director Liz Swain is back with her second scene in the Rehearsal Room, after As You Like It, which you’ll find on the podcast and on YouTube.

These presentations are available on the podcast and YouTube, and you can find both below. While there is a video component, since so much emphasis is on the text, I believe it’s still an excellent experience with the audio version.

We’ve also done recent Facebook Live videos, including a Q&A with director Libby Appel, and then our new Acting the Role series with Geoffrey Wade and Reed Birney, where we focus on specific characters: Dogberry from Much Ado and Uncle Vanya from Chekhov’s play.
